Proper aftercare is essential for safe healing and optimal results after eyelid surgery. Follow this guide for a smooth recovery.

The First 48 Hours

The initial period after blepharoplasty is the most important for reducing swelling and preventing complications.

  • Cold compresses: Apply gently around the eyes (not directly on incisions) for 10 minutes every hour while awake
  • Head elevation: Sleep and rest with your head elevated at 45 degrees
  • No rubbing: Avoid touching or rubbing the eyes
  • Rest your eyes: Avoid screens (TV, phone) as much as possible
  • Days 3–7

  • Swelling and bruising peak around day 3–4, then gradually improve
  • Eye drops or ointment as prescribed — do not skip
  • Sutures are typically removed at 5–7 days
  • Avoid contact lenses for at least 2 weeks
  • Weeks 2–4

  • Light activity is fine; avoid strenuous exercise
  • Sunglasses are essential when outdoors (UV protection + eye protection)
  • Most people feel comfortable returning to work after 1–2 weeks
