Ear, nose and throat problems are very common but often neglected. Learn about the symptoms that require urgent ENT consultation.
Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) conditions can cause complaints that significantly affect daily life. Many people ignore these symptoms thinking they are temporary — but some situations must be evaluated by an ENT specialist.
Ear pain, especially common in children, can be a sign of middle ear infection. If the pain is severe, accompanied by fever or lasts more than 2 days, you must see an ENT specialist.
Persistent or recurring tinnitus can be an early sign of hearing loss, a sign of blood pressure problems or ear damage. If you have permanent ringing, don't waste time.
Sudden hearing loss is a medical emergency and must be treated within 24–48 hours.
Nasal congestion lasting more than two weeks may indicate septum deviation, polyps or chronic sinusitis.
If you have sinusitis more than 3–4 times per year, there may be an underlying structural cause requiring surgical evaluation.
Difficulty breathing through the nose disrupts sleep quality and can lay the groundwork for sleep apnea.
Hoarseness lasting more than 3 weeks must be investigated. Nodules, polyps or other serious pathologies on the vocal cords must be ruled out.
Difficulty swallowing solid or liquid food, painful swallowing or a feeling of food getting stuck in the throat require ENT assessment.
Vertigo and balance disorders fall within the ENT specialist's area of expertise. Sudden severe dizziness accompanied by nausea and instability should be evaluated as soon as possible.
