From day one to 12 months — a detailed, honest guide to what rhinoplasty recovery really looks like.

Overview: What to Expect

Recovery from rhinoplasty is a gradual process. While you'll see significant improvement in the first few weeks, the final result continues to refine for up to a year. Here's what to expect at each stage.

Week 1

  • Splint or cast in place — do not remove
  • Peak swelling and bruising, especially under the eyes
  • Rest is essential; head elevated at all times
  • Cold compresses help reduce swelling
  • Breathing through the nose may be difficult
  • Week 2

  • Splint is typically removed (7–10 days post-op)
  • Bruising begins to fade
  • You can return to most daily activities
  • You can go outdoors with a mask if needed
  • Month 1

  • About 70% of swelling resolves
  • Nose begins to take its new shape
  • Light exercise is permitted
  • Sunscreen is mandatory — UV exposure can affect healing
  • Months 3–6

  • 80–90% of swelling is gone
  • Shape becomes increasingly defined
  • Avoid glasses resting on the nose bridge
  • 1 Year

  • Final result is complete
  • Cartilage and skin have fully settled
